Changing Schools

Changing Schools: School Choice and Interdistrict Transfer

Every student is assigned a school based on where the family lives. School choice is a program that allows parents to choose different GUHSD schools for their students. School choice is only available during the School Choice Window, typically December through February.  All school choice requests must be submitted via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal during the School Choice window.
  • The School Choice Window for the 2024/2025 school year is Dec 1, 2023 8:00AM through Feb 23, 2024 4:00 PM. School Choice is now closed.
  • Find out more about how to participate in School Choice:  School Choice

Interdistrict Transfers are for students who live outside of the GUHSD boundaries (for example, in San Diego, Chula Vista, etc.) and want to go to a GUHSD school. These types of transfers are also for students who live in our boundaries but want to go to a school in another district.

Other Ways to Change Schools

Sibling Transfer: If you have an incoming high school student in your household and a current 9th - 11th grade student who is already attending a GUHSD school other than your school of residence, your incoming student may qualify for a sibling transfer if you make the appropriate School Choice request during the School Choice window.

Admin Hardship: In very rare cases, a family may have a documented, exceptional hardship (other than transportation) that requires your student to change schools outside of the school choice window. If you feel like you have a documented exceptional need, contact your student's currently assigned school to discuss.
