Grossmont Union High School District

This five-part safety series offers parents and families practical tools and information to support safe schools. When it comes to protecting students, staff, and schools, we all have a role to play.

Dealing with cyberbullying: While technology and social media offer many benefits, they can also create opportunities for cyberbullying, including online threats, hurtful messages, and harassment. Families are encouraged to have open conversations with students about the proper use of technology and to watch for changes in behavior that may indicate bullying, such as withdrawal, anxiety, or reluctance to attend school. In our District’s Responsible Use Policy, students are informed that there is no distinction between online and offline activities for school behavior, rules cover both physical and digital actions, and these rules apply to district and personal devices on and off campus. Students or parents who see a post they believe may be bullying should report it to school administration, and any threat can be submitted anonymously through the P3 Tips app, available on all GUHSD Chromebooks. Our staff is committed to responding quickly and providing support to students in need.

Conflict Resolution – We’re Here for Our Students: Learning to navigate disagreements in a healthy way will serve students well in school and beyond. If students are experiencing conflict, they can ask their school counselor, or any other adult on campus, for resources to help in dealing with it. Choosing unhealthy ways to deal with it – such as physical violence or cyberbullying – can lead to broken relationships, school discipline, or sometimes even legal consequences. Families can support this process by encouraging students to seek out resources at school and reminding them that they don’t have to work through challenges alone.

Mental Health Services Available: Student wellness is key to success, and our schools provide resources to support it. In addition to on-site mental health therapists, students can access crisis intervention, group sessions for grief or anger management, and referrals to community resources. If your student is struggling, contact their school counselor or site administrator so we can ensure they have the care and support needed to thrive.

Food Deliveries: To maintain safe and secure campuses, GUHSD has guidelines regarding food deliveries during the school day. Third-party delivery services such as DoorDash, Uber Eats, or Grubhub are not permitted. Families wishing to drop off lunch for their student should do so through the school office. Students also have access to FREE healthy, balanced meals prepared daily by our GUHSD Nutrition Services team.

Reminder about P3 Tips: Did you know students can report suspicious activity to San Diego Crime Stoppers using P3 Tips? The P3 app is available on all GUHSD Chromebooks and makes it easy to submit a report anonymously.

Sincerely,
District Safety Committee
