In order to become a certified school bus driver, you must
successfully complete a minimum of 20 hours of classroom training and 20
hours of behind-the-wheel training. The classroom training teaches you
about rules, regulations, theories and techniques involved with driving a
school bus and transporting children.
The
behind-the-wheel training teaches you how to perform a proper pre-trip
inspection; how to drive and maneuver the bus; and the practical
application of the knowledge you gained in your classroom training. You
receive this training from a State Certified Instructor.
The
California Highway Patrol is responsible for testing people to become
school bus drivers. You must successfully complete all the tests set by
State law to become a school bus driver.
The GUHSD Transportation Department holds Original Bus Driver
training classes 2 times each year: in the Fall & Spring (depending
on attendance). We have successfully trained hundreds of people over
the past 40 years. Most have gone on to find employment in the pupil
transportation industry. Many are hired here at GUHSD.
