The Fire and West Hills
Wow. I went into school today and the fire burned right up to Mast Blvd. in a few places. No doubt many of you will have stories to share. Hopefully the classrooms will be aired out - my room smelled terrible!

West Hills Schedule
About an hour ago, I received a call from West Hills Vice Principal Andrea Rad-Montgomery. She said the district has cancelled school for the rest of week because of air quality. If you have been or even looked outside, you know that this is definitely the right decision.

Here is the official news release from the district:
http://bus.guhsd.net/TransportationEmergencyGUHSD.htm

The project due date is going to be Tuesday, November 4th if we return to school on Monday, November 3.

I hope everyone stays inside until the news media reports that air quality has returned to safe levels. Lets hope this thing ends as soon as possible.

Cedar Fire
I hope everyone is safe from the fires that are devastating the county right now. While we may want a couple of days off from school, I don't think anyone wants them under these circumstances. I have gotten a couple e-mails about when the Industrial Revolution Newspaper is going to be due. The new deadline is next Monday, November 3. If you will have trouble making that deadline due to the current events, please talk to me.

According to the West Hills administration, we are scheduled to be back in school on Wednesday. Obviously, if the fires get worse or the winds kick up again, that may change. For the latest information about GUHSD school closures, check the GUHSD Home Page. I will also post any new information here.

Stay inside and stay safe!

Should these go?
A student sent me this article. As we have been talking about the impact of technology on the world, are there inventions that we should simply eliminate? Are these those inventions?

10 technologies that deserve to die

Industrial Revolution Newspaper
As we work on the newspaper assignment this week and next, you will need to do research on an invention of your choice. I have provided you with resource links for most of the inventions here. You may do further research on the Internet, or use actual books from the library (where we will be on Friday and Monday). Enjoy.
