PowerPoint: Quick and Easy
A step by step guide to a simple but effective presentation.

Please note: There are many approaches to creating a PowerPoint
presentation. This is only one way to create a quick but effective
presentation.

Step 1:
"Pull down theFILE menu.
"SelectNEW.

Step 2:
"Click the GENERALtab. Click BLANK PRESENTATION.
"Do not click OK yet.

Step 3:
"Click the PRESENTATION DESIGNTab.
"Choose any design that interests you.
"Click OK.

Step 4:
"Click the icon for the blank slideunder the NEW SLIDEwindow.
It’s in the lower bottom corner. If selected correctly, the
indicator box will say “blank”.
"Click OK.
"You will see a screen sized view of a blank slide.

Step 5:
"Pull down the VIEW menu.
"Select the OUTLINEview.

Step 6:
"Type a title for the first slide and then press RETURN.
"On the outlining toolbar, (vertical toolbar on the left side of the
screen) clickDEMOTEto create the first bulleted level.
(Demote is the blue/green, right facing arrow. Promote is the
blue/green, leftfacing arrow).
"Type a series of bullet items for the slide, pressing RETURN at
the end of each item. (Suggestion: create only three or four
slides for this practice lesson.)
"Click the Promote and Demote arrows to create various indent
levels.
"At the end of the last bullet item, press OPTION+RETURNto
create the next slide.
"Continue typing titles and text for each slide.
"Select SAVE (under file menu) to name and save your
presentation.

Step 7:
"Pull down the VIEWmenu.
"Select the SLIDEview. You will see a screen sized view of a
slide.

Step 8:
"Assess the look of your slide. If you like it, scroll to the next
slide. (Scroll by using the scroll bar on the right side of the
screen or click the double triangle buttons (at the bottom of the
scroll bar) to go to next slideor previous slide.)

Step 9:
"To change the position of the text or text attributes, Click on
the text.

  • A text block will appear.
  • To change the position of the text: Place the cursor (without
    clicking) on the outside line of the text block. A four-way arrow
    will appear. Click and drag text block to desired location.
  • If several weird text boxes appear, simply select them and
    choose
    CUTfrom the EDITmenu.
  • To change text attributes, (font, size, color, etc.) highlight the
    text you want to change.
  • Pull down the FORMATmenu. Select FONT.
  • Change the desired attributes. (You can preview your selection
    before clicking OK.)
  • Click OK.

Step 10:
"Scroll through each slide to make sure it looks like you want it to.
(Refer to step 8 for scrolling instructions). Follow Step 9 to
make any changes.

Step 11:
"Pull down the VIEW menu. Select the SLIDE SORTERview. You
will see a thumbnail of all of your slides.
"To change the order of a slide, click and drag to the desired
position. The cursor will look like a long thin line. The line must be
visible just in front of or just behind the desired position for the
change to stick.

Step 12:
"Select slide #1.
"Pull down the SLIDE SHOWmenu.
"Select SLIDE TRANSITION.
"Click on the pull down menu under the picture of the dog.
