Using PowerPoint in the Classroom

Why should teachers take the time to learn and use PowerPoint?

Advantages:
"Excellent communication tool
"Can be interactive and engaging for the students
"Can add web links for instant reference during the presentation
"Helps address different learning modalities
"Another way to capture student interest
"Can be very cool and fun

Disadvantages
"Can be time consuming to produce presentations
"Can experience unexpected technical difficulties
"If used too much, can lose it’s pizzazz

What equipment is needed to use PowerPoint in the classroom?
"A computer with the appropriate software and enough memory to handle the type of data
the teacher plans to work with. (Video clips and scanned images take a lot of space)
"A projector and a large screen.

What if I don’t have access to a projector?
"Transparencies of the slides can be made and shown on an overhead.
"A television monitor can be used but it is difficult to see in large room.

Can students easily use PowerPoint to create presentations for class?
"Yes! Templates can be created for the students to use.

Do you feel this way?
"I don’t know PowerPoint very well. Even if I did, I don’t have the time to sit down with
someone for 3 or 4 hours and go through it.”

"Provide a step by step “Quick and Easy “ plan for creating a simple presentation.
"Provide a listing of tutorials and resources through our web site.
"Walk through creating a simple presentation.
