Introduction To Geography

A required one semester course designed for 9th graders. This course emphasizes regional geography with attention to the influence of physical features of the region on the lives of the people. Students use and develop basic social science skills including map use and interpretation.

Life Management Skills

A one semester course required for high school graduation and designed for students in the 9th grade. The course covers topics such as family studies, career planning, crisis prevention, stress management, suicide, chemical dependency, abuse, and consumer education.

Advanced Placement European History


A two semester college level course providing the students with a challenging curriculum consistent with the Advanced Placement course description published by the College Board. Students will take the Advanced Placement European History test for which they may earn college credit.

A rigorous, two semester college level U.S. History survey course. The curriculum is consistent with the Advanced Placement course description published by the College Board. Students will take the Advanced Placement American History test for which they may earn college credit.

American Government


A required one semester course designed for seniors in which students examine the origin, development, structure, and operations of all levels of government, with special emphasis on the federal level.

Economics


A required one semester course designed for seniors so that they may learn about economic analysis, money and banking, foreign trade, and consumer economics. The emphasis is on the free enterprise system with a look at alternative economic thought. Various conflicting economic theories will be examined in the framework of a detailed study of the free enterprise/market economy.

Advanced Placement American Government


A rigorous, two semester college level course designed to challenge students. This Political Science/ American Government course has curriculum consistent with the Advanced Placement course description and helps prepare students to take the AP American Government test which allows them to earn college credit

Public Safety Careers


This first semester senior level elective class will focus on examining issues, job requirements, and the future of career choices with an emphasis in four public safety fields: Corrections, Fire Safety, Hazardous Materials, and Law Enforcement. Speakers, intern programs, shadowing, and study trips will be part of the course. (Fall semester only)

Psychology


A second semester course that introduces the student to facts, principles and concepts which are basic to the understanding of human behavior. Practical Applications of the discipline will be discussed. The course will be taught with the view of developing student critical thinking and communicative skills. (Spring semester only)

Contemporary World Problems


A one semester course in which state of the art media technology and materials designed to make world problems better understood are used. The multimedia approach is designed to bring a wealth of available information into the classroom while it is still current and topical. Emphasis will be placed on the development of critical thinking and communication skills through study. (Fall semester only)

A one semester course that introduces the student to the nature of sociology, including a systematic treatment of group life, social institutions, social processes social change and social control. The student will develop critical thinking and communicative skills. (Spring semester only)
