A Day In The Life In A Castle
by K. Keys

I wake up at the sound of roosters crowing. My father is the lord; my mother is the noble woman. Even though my father is the lord, there is still a lot of work to be done. We have to get ready for the King, who will be coming in 3 days. We have to make sure the tapestries are clean and put up in order. We also have to make sure the servants are in order and are doing what they are supposed to be doing. There is so much activity in the court. There are peddlers, pilgrims, everybody is getting into the act. On a normal day we would normally just do chores like oversee the servants, entertaining our relatives and other guest. But today is not a normal day. Also in preparing for the King we are also preparing for war. We are going to war against Spain. They are trying to take over our boundaries. There is so much to do. The King must have special treatment, we have to worry about war but I guess that is why the King is coming. It’s so hard running a castle but someone has to do it. It is now 8:00 and time for us to retire. Tomorrow will be the same. Better get some rest.
