When viewing a photograph or painting, any one of a number of elements may go unnoticed to the untrained eye. Most people, students included, have the tendency to quickly look at an image and take it at face value. In the process, however, the viewer may miss a subtle hint, crucial component, or simply place too much emphasis on the obvious.

These guide have been developed to assist you and your students with analyzing artistic images in the classroom setting. The images and information contained in the guides are general by design so teachers can adapt them to meet their specific needs.
