This unit on propaganda falls under the World War II World History unit. Propaganda from both World War I and II are included.

Description: This web based activity has students examine different propaganda techniques and then identify them using WWI and WWII propaganda posters.

Description: The technique of creating an enemy has played an important role during wartime. Turning the enemy into a rapist, barbarian, or beast is an effective (and necessary) method to mobilize a nation to hate and kill.

Components: None

Time: 2-4 nights (homework only)

Description: After participating in the Introduction to Propaganda Techniques activity and viewing the Creating an Enemy PowerPoint, students are to create their own propaganda poster using the methods described and studied in class.

Student examples

Suggested Poster Requirements:

  • Poster should be at least 8 1/2" x 11" in size
  • Poster should be in color.
  • Project should include a one page description of the propaganda technique(s) used and the background to the image.
