STEP BY
STEP DIRECTIONS: When you
arrive at the Filamentality website, follow these 3 easy
steps to get started: Step
One: Register Your Topic From the
main menu, click on "Start a New Topic." Follow the
directions for entering the information requested (name,
email, school name, and topic). Review and approve the
information provided . Step
Two: Add Links After you
have entered your information, click on "Add Links" at the
bottom of the registration page. To save time, jot down the
web pages you want your students to access. Be certain that
you give them exact locations, not main menus. This allows
students to cut down on "roaming" time. To add a link, type
in the location, title, and a short description of the web
page. You can add 3 links at one time. To "save" the links
entered, click on "Add Links" at the bottom of the page.
Step
Three: Choose Your Format Based on
the purpose of your lesson, you will need to choose a
format: hotlist, scrapbook, treasure hunt, subject sampler,
or web quest. A description of each can be obtained by
clicking on a format at the bottom of each page. For help
(on any portion of the service), click on "Mentality Tip."
Depending on the format you choose, the system will provide
you with follow up directions.

The purpose of a hotlist is to provide learners with
multiple resources related to a specific topic. This format
would be best utilized for initial research on an assigned
topic. You are able to focus the direction of your students
search by creating a list of where you want them to go. To

The purpose of a scrapbook is the same as that of a
hotlist: providing students with a variety of resources. The
difference is that the scrapbook format gives students the
ability, through easy-to-read instructions, to create
multimedia projects by gathering and combining maps, photos,
statistics, sound files, and video clips. To see a sample

The purpose of a treasure hunt is to develop content
knowledge on a topic by asking focused questions and
providing web resources to answer them. The format allows
students to delve more deeply into a subject, and provides a
culminating "big question" for synthesis of information and
broader understanding. To see a sample treasure hunt:
