Superintendent's Message

Welcome to the Grossmont Union High School District, one of the most widely respected and historically rich districts in California. As superintendent, my goal is to build upon the diverse learning experiences that our schools and students have experienced in recent years. I am committed to working with teachers, parents, and civic leaders to support their efforts and respond to the needs of our community, as we work together to provide a high-quality education for the students we serve. I am encouraged by the enduring commitment that our business community has shown, and the support that each of you provides to our schools.  Our collaborative efforts will contribute to the strength of this district and the quality of the experiences our students encounter.

Our Governing Board is committed to providing the very best for our students and staff. They are good people who care deeply about our schools and who helped shape our Strategic Plan that guides us as we prepare our graduates for life in the 21st Century. Our Trustees have asked me to work with our teachers and staff members to increase rigor, expand educational options, and provide opportunities for our students to achieve even higher levels of success.

Our schools are home to highly qualified, talented, caring teachers and support staff who work together to provide a rich and meaningful learning experience for every student. Each day our students experience their teachers' commitment to provide them with a strong academic foundation, and the practical skills and career/technical expertise needed in a global marketplace.  They are given the opportunity to develop a sense of personal integrity and strong character that will guide them throughout their lives.

The Grossmont Union High School District supports a variety of arts programs in our schools. The young artists training in those classes enrich the school experience and play a major role in sustaining our community’s commitment to the performing and visual arts.  Our athletic teams are highly competitive, and our student athletes compete in some of the most challenging leagues in the CIF San Diego Section.  Clubs and campus organizations abound at each of our schools and students find these organizations to be an important part of their educational experience.

The Grossmont Union High School District is committed to keeping our campuses safe and to maintaining a clean and orderly learning environment.  We are also proactively addressing the changing demographic profile of East County by developing service models to reach out to all of our students and their families. We are proud of the alternative learning opportunities we provide and we believe that those programs give us the flexibility to meet the needs of students who thrive in a nontraditional setting.

These are difficult times in California, and public education is sharing in those challenges.  As Superintendent of the Grossmont Union High School District, I am committing my energy toward addressing those challenges as we work together to provide our students with the support and guidance they need to accomplish their goals.
