In many ways, this school year has been defined by a difficult budget crisis in Sacramento. That crisis will affect staffing in the coming fall, as well as create an atmosphere of uncertainty until the Governor and Legislature reach an agreement. But while the budget crisis has created anxiety and concern, our schools and District continued a record of success and accomplishment. Each of our Board meetings has been defined by staff accomplishments including Golden Apple Award winners, Innovative Teachers of the Month and Outstanding Classified Employees recognitions. Our sports teams continued to win CIF championships while our choral, instrumental and theater arts programs were recognized nationally and internationally. At the same time, Proposition H emerged as a force in changing the environment of our schools as newly renovated classrooms began opening on a regular basis. And we can all be proud of our District employees who contributed greatly to the effort to fight the brush fires of October that resulted in so much tragedy in East County. Meanwhile, our students continue to succeed, graduate and go on to colleges, post-secondary opportunities and careers. All of the above are a tribute to the spirit of our school staff and parent leadership. It is their dedication and enthusiasm that has resulted in so many opportunities and accomplishments for our students. That leadership that will carry us through the current budget crisis and any challenges we may face in the coming year. A sincere thank you to every employee and parent volunteer for your contributions to a successful school year and for your leadership in the coming year. |
