An
enthusiastic “How can I help you?” and brilliant smile from
Sylvia Sposato welcomes all visitors to Mount Miguel High School. The
Grossmont District was indeed fortunate to lure Sylvia away from her position
as an Office Manager at a medical facility. She began her GUHSD journey
working in Human Resources where her cheery disposition and skills soon
captured the attention of many and she was hired at Mount Miguel High
School as the Administrative Secretary, a position she has held for the
past 5 years.
Sylvia juggles a multitude of responsibilities facing her as the Principal’s assistant, assigning and briefing substitutes, planning the logistics for many events, handling phone calls and walk ins, preparing the monthly newsletter, and more, often all at the same time. Sylvia
has an amazing work ethic and level of dedication. As Principal’s
Secretary, she is constantly bombarded with demands from many fronts.
She is able to not only meet those demands, but to add on the many “extras”
that make people feel special.

Sylvia is a very proactive employee who plans for the future, searches for opportunities for professional development for all of the classified staff, and serves as a true ambassador for Mount Miguel. She models a welcoming atmosphere and promotes community partnership with all who enter the office doors. Her dedication is visible as she often the first to arrive and the last to leave, leaving not an “i” un-dotted nor a “t” uncrossed in every project or task she takes on. It
is obvious to anyone who meets her that Sylvia loves to work with the
Mount Miguel students and staff. She has a sense of achievement each day,
but most of all she loves touching young lives. The students and staff
whose lives are touched by Sylvia are fortunate to have crossed her path.
She is a caring and dedicated employee who exemplifies Matador Pride to
all she meets. |

| Jeni Mendel, former Attendance Clerk II at Grossmont High School, recently accepted the new position of Dropout Prevention Specialist (DPS) for GHS, VHS, GHHS, ECHS, SHS, and WHHS. A loyal GUHSD employee since 1981, Jeni has also been a Girls League advisor, a Campus Supervisor, and has even supervised Saturday School. Highly acclaimed by her fellow employees, Jeni has ceaselessly impressed those around her with her dedication and hard work. Theresa Kemper, Principal at Grossmont High, said Jeni is “one of the most outstanding employees I have known since I have worked in the Grossmont Union High School District.” Even before becoming a Dropout Prevention Specialist, Jeni made a priority of getting students back into school, both at Grossmont and other schools throughout the District. |
In fact, Theresa continues, Jeni not only coordinated the DPS program; she was also “instrumental” in bringing the DPS training to GUHSD by working directly with the CSU system. Others around Jeni have noted her obvious dedication as well, with comments such as, “She always helps and never says, ‘it isn't her job’,” “She is never too busy,” and “She will take on any new responsibility.” Though many have pointed out numerous reasons why Jeni deserved to win the Classified Employee of the Quarter award, Jeni said that she felt she received the honor because of the “excellent Admin. Team” at GHS who appreciate the “hard work” of their staff. Her duties encompass a wide range, but Jeni’s favorite aspect of her job is "working with the students". In addition to her commitment at work, Jeni makes time to pursue her favorite hobbies: reading, and collecting antiques, purses and shoes.
