Admission
   Classes are open to adults who are 18 years of age or older. Youth under age 18 not enrolled in school should contact their high school of residence or the Adult Education Office (619) 401-4125 to determine which program they may attend. Currently enrolled (CE's) high school students may attend on a space available basis. CE's must obtain an adult school permission form from their vice principal, and after it is filled out and signed by all parties, it should be brought to the nearest adult center prior to the start of classes.

Accreditation
  The Grossmont Adult Education School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Accreditation is an assurance of quality and a guarantee that classes taken for credit will be accepted for credit by other educational institutions. All teachers are certified in their teaching area by the State Commission for Teacher Preparation and Licensing.

Books
   Books may be purchased in the Adult School Office where the classes are being offered.

Fees
 
 According to state law, no enrollment fee may be charged students who are enrolled in classes for:

  • Adults with Disabilities
  • Apprenticeship classes
  • Citizenship
  • Elementary subjects
  • English as a Second Language
  • High School Credit

Tuition and supply fees for regular classes are listed in the class schedule next to the course offering.

Graduation Requirements

ENGLISH 40 credits
MATHEMATICS (including Algebra) 30 credits
SCIENCE (including Biological and Physical Sciences) 20 credits
SOCIAL SCIENCE (including United States History, and Geography; World History, Culture, and Geography; and American Government, Civics and Economics) 40 credits
VISUAL ARTS or PERFORMING ARTS or FOREIGN LANGUAGE 10 credits
ELECTIVES 60 credits
TOTAL REQUIRED 200 credits

   Credits may be awarded for military training, work experience, documented life experiences, and demonstration of competency through testing. Please contact an Adult School office for further information. In addition to the above subject requirements, the student is required by state law to meet the local district's proficiency standards in the basic skill areas of reading, writing, arithmetic in order to receive a diploma.

Information about the new California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE)

In July the State Board of Education postponed the Exit Exam for two years. Beginning with the graduation class of 2006, all students in California public schools will be required to pass the CAHSEE. This means that Grossmont Adult School students who complete credit requirement after June 30, 2005 must pass the Exit Exam in order to graduate and receive their high school diploma. The test is based on the California content standards fro reading, writing, and mathematics.

Official Records
   Official records of the Grossmont Adult School are held as confidential and no record information regarding a student will be released without prior written authorization from the student.

Refunds
   No refunds will be made after the second class meeting.

Registration
    Enrollment in all classes is on a first come, first served basis. Preregistration occurs for classes with anticipated overloads (Computers, Medical, and Parent Education). Preregistration information is given in the class schedule. Classes may be closed due to low or lack of continued enrollment. Please do not bring children to adult education classes. Sexual Harassment
    It is the policy of the Governing Board to provide an educational environment free of sexual harassment. The Governing Board condemns sexual harassment of any district student by any person. The district administration will investigate and resolve all alleged complaints of sexual harassment of and take disciplinary action as required and authorized to remedy the situation. Each complaint shall be promptly investigated in a way that respects the privacy of all parties concerned. There will be no retaliation against any student for filing a complaint of sexual harassment or participating n the complaint process.
   Complaints of sexual harassment shall be filed and processed in accordance with the complaining procedures set forth in Administrative Regulation AR5145.7.
   Any student who believes that he or she has been the victim of sexual harassment should report it to the principle or designee or to another district administrator and obtain a copy of AR5145.7.
