Health Occupations Center Instructors/Barbara Weitzen

Ms. Weitzen earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1979 from San Diego State University. She started teaching in the Vocational Nursing program at Grossmont Health Occupations Center in 1992. In August 2004, in addition to her full-time teaching schedule, Ms. Weitzen took on the challenge of being the Vocational Nursing Director. Because she recognizes how important it is for nursing instructors to stay current with developments in the field of nursing, Ms. Weitzen also works part-time as a Registered Nurse at Sharp Hospital.

Ms. Weitzen is determined to graduate nurses who are problem solvers and critical thinkers. She believes that critical thinking is the most essential skill for nurses; therefore, she incorporates scenarios that require these higher order thinking skills into her lessons - both in the clinical and theory arenas.
