Grossmont Health Occupations Center: Who are
we anyhow??
|

Ann Vroom, Director |
Grossmont Health Occupations Center
(HOC) is one of six centers of Grossmont Adult School, in the
Grossmont Union High School District. HOC has provided education
in healthcare occupations since 1957 when, in response to a
nursing shortage after World War II, it admitted its first class
of Vocational Nurses. At that time, the school was housed in
a Quonset hut on the grounds of Grossmont Hospital. |
|
HOC has grown tremendously over the years, with approximately
3000 students now attending each year. HOC has an excellent reputation
in the community and is very proud of the many highly successful
graduates working throughout the county. The Vocational Nursing
(VN) program graduates approximately 55 nurses each year, with
a very high pass rate on the licensure examination. Many graduates
go on to the Step-Up Programs at community colleges to become
registered nurses. The intensive, one-semester Nurse Refresher-Reentry
program gives Nurses the knowledge and clinical skills they need
to successfully return to their profession.
