This is a one-semester course which offers an introduction to French language and civilization with emphasis on their influence on American life. Instructional materials will pertain to French pronunciation, geography, cuisine, art and history. The course is open to all students without prerequisite. This is an enrichment course but is not a substitute for French 1C.

This is the first year of a four-year offering in this language. It is designed for the college preparatory student. The course offers the grammatical basis of most of the Latin noun and adjective declensions. The verb forms covered are the indicative tenses, the imperatives, the infinitives, and all the participles except the gerundives. Materials for the graded readings of the lessons are taken from Roman life and history, Roman and Greek mythology and literature. Vocabulary studies in English accompany the new Latin words presented. This course meets the UC "E" and "F" requirements.

A two-semester course open to any student who secured at least a "C" grade in Latin 1C and 2C. Course content includes Latin grammar in its basic structure. Special attention is given to subjunctive and gerundive uses. The readings include selections adapted from Roman history, the Hercules and Jason legends in the first half of the year. During the second half, selections are read from Julius Caesar's "Commentaries." Study of roots as they relate to the English language continues. This course meets the UC "E" and "F" requirements.

The course is open to any student who received a "C" grade or better in Latin 3C and 4C. Forms not covered in the first two years are studied, especially contractive verbs. Reading selections are from Cicero's "Orations," "Letter," and Ovid's "Metamorphoses." Extensive work is given on English vocabulary as it derives from Latin. This course meets the UC "E" and "F" requirements.
