- A two-semester course offered for all students. The course is based on the District Curriculum Concepts which include the development of 1) aesthetic perception skills, 2) creative expression, 3) fine arts heritage, and 4) aesthetic discrimination. Instruction in the care and use of basic tools and equipment is included.

- These are advanced level art courses for students who have passed the beginning level. They are a continuation of the basic skills with an emphasis on individual proficiency and a development of a personal portfolio in a specific area of interest. Work outside of class is required. - This course will prepare art oriented students with entry-level job skills in areas identified as having potential in our community. Students will have the opportunity to investigate, discover and experience those entry-level art skills that lead to careers in:

- Semester 1 - Commercial Printing Processes
- Understanding of skills will be developed in commercial print processes; letter press, offset, gravure, line art, practical art, screens and color reproduction. Skills in one or more of the above will be developed.
- Semester 2 - Practical Lettering
- Practical lettering skills will be developed in various lettering styles; use of pen and brush; special lettering for show card, truck and window.

- Semester 1 - Studio Skills

- Use of the air brush; mounting photos, slip sheet mounting, matting acetate cover and keyline.

- This course presents opportunities to the student in many media of two and three dimensions. The use of art forms in specific relation to student interests and function is important. Enrollment is by teacher approval. Art Workshop 3-4 meets the University of California "F" requirement.

- A one-semester survey course planned for 11th and 12th grade, emphasizing art forms in painting, sculpture, music, and architecture of the western world.

- Specific objectives:
- 1. To provide students with the opportunity to achieve sensitivity to arts, crafts, and photographic activities, and acquire the necessary vocabulary to express their feelings through the art media.
- 2. To have students find some immediate degree of success resulting from meaningful study and work.
- 3. To offer sufficient constructive art experiences to not only gain appreciation for all creative endeavor, but to determine more specifically the courses they would subsequently like to pursue.
- 4. To offer an informal atmosphere where self-discipline and cooperation among students may be explored.
- 5. To avoid complex, advanced techniques and processes. These are secondary to expression, exposure and discovery.

- This course is designed for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade college preparatory students and deals with the history and appreciation of art. This course will involve students with visual arts, both two and three dimensional. It will provide opportunities for students to study and see fine art increasing their understanding of types and times in art fields. A parallel study of music and art will be done. Slides and films will be used along with many examples of art. This course is specifically designed to meet both the University of California "F" requirement and the GUHSD Visual and Performing Arts graduation requirement. Prerequisite: Student must be in grade 10, 11, or 12 and have demonstrated writing and research skills.

- This course is designed for 11th and 12th grade honors students. In addition to the course work required in Art History 1C, students will be involved in art criticism and evaluation techniques. Emphasis will be placed on in-depth research into periods and styles of art and music. Museum visitation will also be frequently required. Both quality and quantity of work will be individually evaluated by the instructor. This course is designed to meet both the University of California "F" requirement and the GUHSD Visual and Performing Arts graduation requirement. General criteria for honors credit:
- A.The students exhibits initiative and commitment toward learning and the desire to study the history of art.
B.The students must evidence high achievement in art history, identified by criticism and evaluation techniques of historical work.
C.The students must demonstrate ability to work independently in both regularly assigned work and in self-motivated study.
D.The students must be willing and able to pursue in-depth study over an extended period of time.

- This course is open to any student. Subject matter is related to the basic principles and elements of art, the historical background of art, and the care and use of basic hand tools. Emphasis is upon the relation of materials to function and beauty. Projects in wood, clay, plaster of Paris, stone, copper enamels, mosaic materials, leather, and metal are selected. This course meets the University of California "F" requirement.

- A course designed to offer the student the equivalent of an introductory college course in art history. Students will acquire an understanding and enjoyment of architecture, sculpture, painting, and other art forms within a historical and cultural context. The curriculum is consistent with the Advanced Placement History of Art course description published by the College Board. This course meets the University of California "F" requirement and also the GUHSD Visual and Performing Arts graduation requirement.

- This course is open to any student. It includes a basic study of art principles, and the elements of art, color, and nature. The student studies the history of art as related to design in costumes, architecture, furniture, lettering, posters, and silk screening.

- A course with particular emphasis on creation of jewelry and sculptural objects. Open to all students with at least one semester of Art, Design, Crafts, or equal, and/or with consent of the instructor.

- This course is open to any student. Course content covers the fundamentals of the art, with the student learning all the main parts of a camera, taking pictures, and developing them. The history of photography and its relation to other subjects is investigated. A darkroom laboratory is part of the program.

- This course begins the advanced level of photography and is designed for students who have passed the beginning level. It is a continuation of instruction based on State and District Curriculum Concepts. Advanced instruction emphasizes refinement of basic skills; individual creativity; expansion of student knowledge and understanding of historical, cultural, and aesthetic values of the art form; the making of verbal and non-verbal aesthetic judgments; and photography as a form of visual communication that expresses a common core of knowledge and universal concepts. Development of a personal portfolio and work outside the class are required. Prerequisite: Photography 1 and 2. This course is designed to meet the University of California "F" requirement.
B B250 COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY 1 5
- This is a one period coeducational vocational semester course open to students in grades 10, 11, and 12 who have successfully completed Photography 2. Experience is gained in commercial photographic techniques, materials, and assignments. In a simulated businesslike environment, students will learn to solve problems of commercial studio portraiture, product photography and advertising layout, architecture photography and journalistic assignments dealing with groups and events. Problems of presentation, billing clients, ordering supplies, business finances and basic bookkeeping will be covered. This course is also listed in the Trade and Industry section (Section X) of the course description book. Prerequisite: Photography 2.

- This course may be repeated at each level. Students will select one of the four printmaking processes of serigraphy, relief, intaglio or lithography for studio concentration. History of each process will be presented. Course may be taken one time at each level for four semesters to allow each of the processes to be presented. After four semesters of Printmaking, student must register for individual study. Students will learn to identify the process by which a particular print was made and artists associated with the process; will be able to demonstrate their knowledge of each printmaking process by producing a print. Open to all students who have had one semester of Art or Design or equal, or with teacher approval.

- This course provides guidance in the preparation of a portfolio for the Advanced Placement program in studio art. The course is for the highly skilled, gifted senior student that comes to this class with an extensive background in the visual arts. The student will have an area of preference in art, crafts, or photography. Students enrolled in this class will be concurrently enrolled with students in other levels of art classes. Approval for Advanced Placement credit must be arranged in advance of enrollment. Prerequisite: A first-year introductory class in the area of specialization (art, crafts, photography) with an A or B grade; senior student; teacher and parent recommendation. This course meets the University of California "F" requirement.

- This one-year course provides guidance to the advanced student in the preparation of a portfolio that will fulfill the requirements for the Advanced Placement Studio Art portfolio that focuses on a general portfolio. This course is for the highly-skilled, gifted junior or senior student that comes to this advanced class with an extensive background at the secondary level in the visual arts. Through scope and sequencing, the student will have developed an area of preference in studio art, 3-dimensional design, or photography. The core of this class will be the completion of a series of works based on a student-created theme.
- Students enrolled in this class may work concurrently with students in other advanced studio classes. This change will allow a student to enroll in this class as a junior or senior; it also specified which specialized advanced placement portfolio the student will complete.
- Prerequisite: At lease one year of a secondary level art department class; a junior or senior; and teacher and parent recommendation.

- This one-year course provides guidance to the advanced student in the preparation of a portfolio that will fulfill the requirements for the Advanced Placement Studio Art portfolio that focuses on drawing. The core of this class will be the completion of a series of drawings based on a student created theme. The course is for the skilled and gifted junior or senior student who has completed a recommended two years of lower level art classes at the secondary level. This course completes a scope and sequence from the general to this specialization. Students enrolled in this class may work concurrently with students in other advanced studio classes.

- Students enrolled in this program will be assigned to individual instructors to develop an educational program. Enrollment and completion of this course will achieve 2.5 credits.
