AA028AGRICULTURE POWER EQUIPMENT 15
- The intent of this course is to provide the student with a knowledge of tractor, engines, and related equipment. The operation and maintenance of selected equipment used in agriculture and landscaping in this area will be stressed. Theory of 4-cycle engines and minor repair will be discussed, as well as over-all safety in operating and maintaining equipment. Prerequisite: Construction and Repair of Farm Projects.

- A two-semester course open to all juniors and seniors who have completed California Agriculture. This course covers units in careers, sales techniques, marketing, banking, employee/employer relations, purchasing, pricing, customer relations, agricultural record keeping, etc. This class will help evaluate and develop the FFA program of work. Projects will be required. Prerequisite: California Agriculture.

- A two-semester course open to 10th through 12th graders who have completed California Agriculture or one other course in the Vocational Agriculture Department. The course covers units in FFA, projects, nutrition, diseases, carcass evaluation, genetics, anatomy and physiology. This course can be taken concurrently with Construction and Repair of Farm Projects 1-2 (A080-A081). Prerequisite: California Agriculture or one other course in the Vocational Agriculture Department. This course, when taken with California Agriculture 1-2 (A070-A071) will meet the one year Life Science graduation requirement at the applied arts level, OR a semester of this course and a semester of Plant Science 1-2 (A200-A201), plus California Agriculture 1-2 (A070-A071) will meet the one year Life Science graduation requirement at the applied arts level.

- This two-semester course is offered to 9th and 10 graders who have expressed an interest in the field of Agriculture. The course will cover such areas as FFA, animal science, vegetable and field crops, ornamental horticulture, natural resources, agriculture mechanics, and career opportunities in all areas of agriculture. Emphasis will be placed on those clusters of occupations related to the program offered in Vocational Agriculture in the district. The course will be one year in length and will be a prerequisite for all other classes in the Vocational Agriculture program. FFA activities will be encouraged and a productive or work experience project will be required. This course, when taken with Animal Science 1-2 (A060-A061) OR Plant Science 1-2 (A200-A201) will meet the one year Life Science graduation requirement at the applied arts level. Also, this course, when taken with a semester of Animal Science 1-2 (A060-A061) AND a semester of Plant Science 1-2 (A200-A201), will meet the one year Life Science graduation requirement at the applied arts level.

- A two-semester course offered to 9th and l0th graders who desire to learn the hand skills common to the farm and home. These include woodworking, soldering, welding, and forging. This course can be taken concurrently with Animal Science 1-2 (A060-A061), or Plant Science 1-2 (A200-201).
AA088FEEDING AND DISEASES OF LIVESTOCK 1 5
- This course is open to juniors and seniors who have had Agriculture I. A one-semester course covering nutrition, feeds and feedings, cooperatives,marketing, diseases and parasites in agriculture. Emphasis is placed on occupations and applications of principles. This class will also help plan the program of work for the FFA group.

- A two-semester course offered to 10th, 11th and 12th graders who completed Construction and Repair of Farm Projects 1-2 (A080-A081). Students learn the care and operation of power tools and farm machinery.
AA108SOIL TECHNOLOGY 1 5
- This course covers the interaction of soils, nutrients, water, air, and soil, as well as sampling and testing for these factors. Safety in use and application of fertilizers will be stressed. Prerequisite: Any course in the Vocational Agriculture program.
AA118FOREST MANAGEMENT 15
- This course offers a study of air, soil, water and wildlife in relationship to the forests and other plants. Particular attention will be paid to skills necessary for entry level jobs as firefighters.
AA128LABORATORY ANIMAL TECHNOLOGY 15
- This course will deal with most small animals in regard to breeds, feeding, health, and management, including care and management of laboratory animals. Exploratory work experience in local veterinary hospitals, pet shops and kennels will be incorporated into this course.
AA138LANDSCAPE DESIGN 15
- This course includes landscape planning and design and landscape installation and maintenance. Specific areas studied will include landscape planning, lawn installation, turf grass maintenance, soil management, fertilization, turf diseases, pest control, etc. The approach will be through the actual planning, installation, and proper maintenance of landscape features such as lawns, trees, ground covers, shrubs, etc.
AA148LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION 15
- Study and training in those mechanical skills involved in the horticulture industry--particularly landscape construction. Specific areas covered will include carpentry, concrete work, electricity, masonry, and plumbing necessary in landscape planning and construction. The approach will be through the actual designing and construction of patios, retaining walls, fences, garden lighting, sprinkling systems, etc.

- This course provides a background in metal fabrication and its relation to the agriculture field. It is designed to instruct the student in oxy-acetylene, shielded metal arc, and MIG welding processes, layout and joining techniques for hot and cold metals, forge and machine tool making, sheet metal, properties of metals, and use of metal working equipment that would be used in an agriculture metal shop. The course will also utilize FFA and supervised occupational experience to develop leadership, recordkeeping, and gain practical experience. PREREQUISITE: Completed Cal-Ag with C or better on Instructor's permission.
AA158NURSERY POWER EQUIPMENT 15
- This course deals with the operation, maintenance and repair of small gas engines used in agriculture. This course content is designed to prepare the student in areas of maintenance, repair, terminology, specifications, basic principles of operation, etc., and overhaul of agriculturally used small gas operated engines. The student will also acquire training in the use of various tools and equipment which are operated by small engines.

- This two-semester course offers study in the nursery and floriculture industries. Specific areas of concentration will be soils, soil mixing, soil sterilization, potting, transplanting, planting, plant propagation, fertilization, plant identification, greenhouse management, diseases, pest control and agricultural chemicals. Skills taught will be the same as in commercial nursery operation and landscape maintenance. Agricultural careers will be investigated in the fields of nursery, floristry, and landscape industries.

- The types of outdoor recreation, such as hunting, fishing, camping, etc., as well as the business aspects of these enterprises will be explored in this course. The conservation and ecological implications of outdoor recreation will be studied.
AA188PARK AND RANGE MANAGEMENT 1 5
- This course content includes the study of law, regulations, liabilities, skills, and abilities needed in planning, maintaining and operating recreational land facilities. Studies will include introduction to national, state, county, city, and private park systems, history, policy, and principles of formation, administration, and functioning of recreational units at the park, district, and regional levels.

- A two-semester course designed primarily for 10th and 11th graders which presents a study of California crops and the interrelationship of air, water, nutrients, and soil. Emphasis is on science of plant growth and development. The course covers land preparation, seeding, fertilizers, insect and pest control, herbicide, pesticide and fertilizer safety, and harvesting. Public speaking and parliamentary procedure is stressed in order to train the student in FFA leadership. An important part of the program is the FFA and the project requirement. This course can be taken concurrently with Construction and Repair of Farm Projects 1-2 (A080-A081). Prerequisite: California Agriculture or one other course in the Vocational Agriculture Department. This course, when taken with California Agriculture 1-2 (A070-A071), will meet the one year Life Science graduation requirement at the applied arts level, or a semester of this course AND a semester of Animal Science 1-2 (A060-A061), plus California Agriculture 1-2 (A070-A071), will meet the one year Life Science graduation requirement at the applied arts level.

- Control and identification of weeds and pests of plants and animals will be studied as well as safe and practical use of chemicals. Projects and record keeping are required. FFA membership will be discussed.
AA218WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT 15
- The course content will cover such areas as wildlife identification, habitat, regulations, ecology, and game management. Particular attention will be paid to wildlife in its relationship to the environment and civilization.
AA228NUTRITION AND CARE OF HORSES 1 5
- This course is open to all students. The course will cover units in feeding of horses, all classes, proper grooming of the horse, horse safety, care of the brood mare and foal, hoof care, diseases and parasites of horses, and selection of a horse.
AA238LARGE ANIMAL VETERINARY SCIENCE5
- This course provides an advanced study of common diseases associated with livestock and the means of treatment and prevention. Course work will include advanced anatomy and physiology of domestic animals, nutrition, internal and external parasites, and diseases. Students will gain practical experience in veterinary medicine by conducting hands-on activities with livestock. Field trips, guest lectures (to include veterinarians), FFA, and Supervised Occupational Experience Programs (SOEP) will be utilized to enhance instruction. Prerequisite: A grade of "C" or better in Animal Science.
